Corporate 3-Day Fasting: Day 2

A Hunger For God

Congratulations on making it to day 2 of Fasting and Praying. If day 1 was a bit rocky for you, don’t worry, just keep going. You can do this! Some of you might have been experiencing cravings. Our appetites can dictate many things in our lives — whether it’s our stomach and food choices, desire for possessions, or power. Our appetite for life or hunger is a need that demands satisfaction. Of course, we want to satisfy our stomachs with sustenance such as food for it is our source of nourishment or source of strength. Have you thought about what you consider your source strength?

Fasting is the intentional choice to abstain from food or something that you enjoy. When we deny ourselves it makes space to awaken a spiritual hunger for God. How do we feed this spiritual hunger? By reading the Word of God. In Deuteronomy 8:3, it says “And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” It is important to feast on God’s Word while you fasting. It helps fuel your prayers and strengthen you from the attacks/ temptations of the enemy. “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:1-25 (ESV)

“And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” – Isaiah 58:11 (ESV)

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” – Matthew 5:6 (ESV)

Today let God be whom you crave and thirst after, allowing Him to bring satisfaction not only to you physically, and mentally but spiritually as well. – Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

As you go about your day, remember to make God your focus. Set the tone by beginning your day with praise and worship. I have a Spotify playlist that we use for the prayer line, click here to access it. Avoid TV, social media, drama, gossip, or any other distraction that’ll lessen your spiritual focus.  Invite the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you during this time. Ask Him about what you should be reading and give your revelation on what He wants you to meditate on when it comes to God’s Word, as it is your spiritual food.
